Because of my Fathers Pochade Box

Its All about the Light

I started painting in 2012. My father Primo was a painter. When he died my mother gave me his old pochade box.

I decided to try to make use of it and took a painting class at Sanctuary Arts in Eliot Maine taught by the amazing representation artist Sean Beavers.

I had no idea how to paint. I had been a nurse for 20 years.  I never drew or painted except as a child.

I loved the class and Sean is an exceptional teacher and painter. Step by step. Gray scales, color charts, drawing I was intrigued. Then we went outside to paint. I was totally hooked.

We grew up with our father always pointing out things and saying "look at the light!" I never got it. Sure it was pretty. Now I SEE it.

I see shadows and values I never noticed before. And how do you paint waves? or Clouds? or trees. Its a constant learning experience.

I have kept taking classes with wonderful oil painters. Dennis Poirier, David and Pam Lussier, Todd Bonita, Mary Byrom, Caleb Stone, Don Demers, among others.  I read, I paint , I learn.

I hope you like how I see and paint.
