Martin Coyle / CTRL ALT DUB

Since 2012, Martin Coyle, known artistically as CTRL ALT DUB, has created bold, non-figurative abstract paintings from his home studio in a remodeled barn behind his house. Rooted in the energy of Abstract Expressionism, his work blends spontaneous gesture, color, and rhythm into immersive compositions that feel both musical and emotional—paintings that move like sound.

Raised on Long Island, New York, Coyle was profoundly shaped by graffiti artrap music, the improvisational spirit of The Grateful Dead, and the transformative nature of the psychedelic experience. These influences fuse in his process—each painting becoming a kind of visual jam session, guided by instinct, emotion, and flow.

The name CTRL ALT DUB, adopted in 2012, symbolizes Coyle’s creative philosophy: to reset, remix, and rediscover. It also serves as the signature for his limited-edition releases and non-figurative abstract works on canvas, each one carrying the pulse of street culture and the fluid freedom of experimental sound.

A relative of artist Otto Mjaanes, Coyle continues a family legacy of artistic exploration. Through CTRL ALT DUB, he transforms memory, music, and movement into color—offering viewers a meditative and deeply personal glimpse into rhythm, rebellion, and renewal.
