James Michael  Bramlett

Michael began painting later in life when he moved to Southern Maine from Jacksonville FL. Surrounded by artwork in the home of his girllfriend he became inspired to pick up a brush and began working with acrylic and gouache when he became a member of The Blackbird Studio in North Berwick. He has a unique way of applying color and shapes on the paper in an abstract yet familiar landscape of form and dimension. His struggle to learn perspective drives him to continue experimenting with lines and color field techniques. His most succesful pieces can be simple clean and bright landscapes or an intense and deliberate layering of color and texture in freehand brushwork. His impressions of trees often feel like dancing figures on a stage with proportionate limbs stretching and kicking up into the air that surrounds them. His style is primitive and abstract driven by a love of color.
